Mercadona is the leading Spanish retail chain, founded in 1977 in the province of Valencia. It now has 1,654 supermarkets across Spain, 300 in Portugal and manages a workforce of around 85,800 people. The company follows an urban convenience store model, stocking a wide range of food, medicines, perfumes and complementary items including own-brand and name brand products.

The company needed to expand and qualitatively upgrade its logistics capacity in the key location of Valencia, to streamline the management of its warehousing and distribution processes. At the same time, it wanted a new asset to optimize its supply chain strategy and handle current and future logistics needs. So, Mercadona was looking for a professional partner that would offer a high-quality space with the capacity to store any type of international goods for medium rotation regional distribution.

Prologis delivered a state-of-the-art building, over 23,500 sqm with 11 metres clear height and ESFR sprinklers adequate for medium risk level 5.  Mercadona occupies the whole space, located in the Riba-roja de Túria PLV in the Valencia DC1 Prologis Park. This is Prologis's first 4.0 building, linked to the internet so it can be fully managed from a mobile device. It uses building information modeling (BIM) design and management, offering access to all As-Built documentation and the building's maintenance and conservation manuals.

As a result, Mercadona was the first customer to take advantage of EEGLE, a digital tool that interfaces with the logistics platform. EEGLE provides one-click access from any device for technical management, real-time data and predictive analysis, considerably improving resource optimization. The building has BREEAM sustainability certification, rated “very good”.
